Education Concerts
This year, the Philharmonic will present "Tunes and Tales," an education concert that demonstrates the narrative power of music. The Orchestra will perform music that tells stories, with selections from Williams' Harry Potter Suite, Ravel's Mother Goose Suite, Grieg's In the Hall of the Mountain King and Richard Wagner’s The Ride of the Valkyries. Also on the program are the 1st and 2nd place winners of the 2007-2008 Philharmonic Concerto Competition. On May 7th, Alanna Tonetti Tieppo will perform the 1st movement of the Sibelius Violin Concerto, and on May 8th, Daisy Joo will perform the 1st movement of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. An audience sing-along will take place at each concert, featuring the rounds Scotland’s Burning” and/or “Music Alone Shall Live.” Click here to get the teacher’s guide, which includes links to videos of several of the musical selections, sheet music for the two rounds, and lots of other helpful concert information.
The concerts will be held on Wednesday, May 7th and Thursday, May 8th 2008 at the VMA Arts & Cultural Center in Providence. There will be two concerts each day, starting at 9:45 and 11:30.
