OUR MISSION The nurturing environment of the Philharmonic
Music School actively encourages lifelong involvement with music for all people in Southeastern New England by offering quality music performance and education opportunities. The Philharmonic Music School is the largest nonprofit community music school in the State; we work with over 2,500 students every week. The Philharmonic Music School is a member of the 230-school National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts.

WHO ATTENDS THE MUSIC SCHOOL? Anyone who loves music is welcome! Our students range in age from 9 months to 80 years old. Some of our students plan to pursue careers in music, while others take classes, lessons and join ensembles for their own enjoyment; we value all of our students equally.

The PhilharmonicMusic School does not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age or handicap.

WHO TEACHES AT THE MUSIC SCHOOL? The Philharmonic Music
School employs a teaching staff of over dedicated music educators and performers. Our goal is to match each student with the teacher who best meets the student’s needs in terms of musical style, experience and personality.

WHAT WE OFFER Studentsmay choose private lessons in voice andmany instruments. Classical, Jazz, Rock, Folk and World Music styles are all represented in our curriculum. In addition to individual lessons we offer ensembles of different sizes and levels, from trios and quartets to larger groups like the RIPYJazz Big Band. Our resident orchestral program, the Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Orchestras, includes ensembles designed to develop orchestral skills of school-age musicians at all levels.

Our Early Childhood classes prepare the very young — ages 9 months to 5 years—for a lifelong appreciation of music. In addition, more than 100 families participate in our Suzuki program, in which children as young as age 4 begin formal instruction on violin, cello, piano, flute and guitar.
