Concert Guidelines

Before The Concert
Please prepare your students by following the suggestions in this guide.
Students should be briefed on concert etiquette in advance.

The Day Of The Concert
  • Before leaving the school, please allow time for the students to visit the restroom.
  • Plan to arrive at VMA Arts & Cultural Center at least 30 minutes before concert time.
  • The VMA Staff and the Providence Police are fully responsible for directing your bus to a parking area. Please cooperate by following their instructions completely. The safety of your students is our top priority. Thank you for assisting the Rhode Island Philharmonic by reinforcing these guidelines.
  • Students should walk in a single line or with their partners into the auditorium and follow the usher to their seats. Teachers and chaperones should position themselves throughout the line. No food is to be brought into the VMA.
  • Students should lower their voices upon entering VMA. Shouting will not be allowed.

    During The Concert

  • Everyone must stay in his/her seat. No group or individual may approach the stage or walk around the auditorium.
  • The use of cameras, recording devices and electronic pagers is not permitted during Philharmonic performances.
  • Clapping after each piece performed is appropriate; shouting is not. Students who exhibit unpleasant concert etiquette will be escorted to their bus.
  • When the performance is over, students and teachers must stay in their seats. A dispatcher from the stage will dismiss each group.

These Educational Concerts may be your students' first introduction to a Rhode Island Philharmonic performance, or their first time in VMA Arts & Cultural Center. To make this experience a positive and rewarding one, please review these behaviors with your students before your trip. Thank you.
