REGISTRATION The Music School operates on a two-term schedule: a 32 week session and a flexible summer session. . All returning students are required to pre-register at least one month prior to the beginning of each session. New students must register at least one full week prior to the first lesson. Students must submit a completed registration form and tuition deposit to be placed with an instructor. If it is not possible to place a student with an appropriate instructor/class during registration, students may elect to place their names on a waiting list or receive reimbursement for the deposit submitted. Families will receive a confirmation and statement for the remaining tuition balance due for the semester after their registration has been processed. Students may not attended lessons or classes until a confirmation has been received. Student registration is a contract reserving a specific day/time slot with the instructor each week. It is assumed students will continue for the entire year. Students choosing to withdrawal must notify the Administrative Office according to the "Withdrawal/Refund" policy listed below.
REGISTRATION FEE All students must pay a registration fee. Registration fee is $25 per student or $50 per family of two or more students. No matter how many activities the student participates in, there is only ONE registration fee charged annually.
LATE REGISTRATION FEE Returning students will be charged a $20 fee per student or $25 per family if registration and deposit is not received prior to attending lessons, classes, or ensemble rehearsals. Accounts will be placed on Administrative Hold and lessons will be suspended until payment is received.
TUITION PAYMENT The Music School offers two payment options: Option #1: You may pay the total tuition prior to beginning lessons or Performance Education ensembles. Students taking part in group classes must pay the full tuition before the start of classes. Payments may be made at one of The Music School branches. Returning students may mail their payment to the Administrative Offices at 667 Waterman Avenue, East Providence, RI 02914
Option #2: Students enrolling in private lessons may pay their tuition in 2 semi annual install ments at with no payment plan fee.
Option #3 (Payment Plans) Students enrolling in private lessons may pay their tuition in four quarterly installments. Students accepted into a Performance Education ensemble may pay their tuition in 3 installments. EArly Childhood students may pay their tuition in two installments. The Music School will bill for the remaining balance. An additional fee is added if the payment plan is utilized: $10 for credit card payments / $15.00 for check or cash payments once per 32 week session. A $5 late fee will be added each month a payment is late. NOTE: All prior tuition balances must be paid in full before registering for a new semester. Lessons may not begin without payment.
RETURNED CHECKS/DECLINED CREDIT CARDS Accounts will be charged a $25 fee for any returned checks or declined credit cards.
WITHDRAWALS/REFUNDS In the event that a student elects to discontinue lessons before the end of the session, eight days written notice submitted to the Registrar is required. Notice to the instructor is not sufficient, nor is nonattendance. Any excused absences that have not been made-up prior to the withdrawal are forfeited and not refundable.
ATTENDANCE/ABSENCES Regular attendance is expected. As a courtesy to the instructor, if a student must miss a private lesson, he or she must notify the school. Students taking private lessons are allowed one excused absence between September-December and one excused absence from January- June. The lesson may be made up during make-up week. Once one excused absence has been noted, all other absences will be "unexcused." Unexcused absences are not subject to make-ups, credits or refunds. The Music School reserves the right to discontinue a student with poor attendance at any time. In cases of prolonged illness or injury, the instructor must be notified of all lessons that will be missed. A doctor's note or other medical document may be requested in order to receive credit. If an instructor must cancel a lesson, it is his/her responsibility to make up the lesson at a time that is mutually convenient for both student and instructor. Lessons cancelled by the instructor that cannot be made up by the close of the semester are credited to the student's account. Excused absences that have been paid for and cannot be made up by the close of the semester are credited to the student's account. Credits will remain on account for up to one year and are not subject to refunds.
INCLEMENT WEATHER INCLEMENT WEATHER If The Music School closes due to inclement weather, faculty members will be contacted to notify their students. Students may call 401.248.7070 or check ABC6 or NBC10 or their web sites. Students will receive credits for lessons or group classes that cannot be made up by the end of the semester.
MAKE-UP LESSONS Two make up weeks occur at the end of the session. Please see the Calendar in the Catalog for make up week dates. Private lesson students must be available during make up weeks to receive make up lessons for Excused Absences, Teacher Cancellations or School Closings. If a student misses an appointed make up lesson, it is considered unexcused and is not credited to the student's account. Teacher may also schedule make ups at another mutually convenient time. No make ups are given to students abesnt from group class or ensemble.
TARDINESS/MISSING BOOKS Students who are late for a scheduled lesson or forget their lesson book are not guaranteed their full lesson length. Students more than 15 minutes late for their lesson will be considered absent. The instructor reserves the right to cancel the remainder of the lesson.
